The Meteorology/Climatology program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was established in 1982. In 1998, the Meteorology/Climatology program was merged with the Department of Geology to form the Department of Geosciences.

The Meteorology/Climatology program offers a program leading to the B.S. degree in Meteorology-Climatology. This program combines basic atmospheric science and climatology courses with a rigorous training in mathematics, computer science, and physics. This comprehensive degree program will prepare students for possible employment in state, federal, and private agencies, as well as private corporations, which are involved in the many applied fields of meteorology-climatology. This curriculum will also assist the student in preparation for graduate level studies in meteorology-climatology.

The Department of Geosciences also offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees with specializations in Meteorology/Climatology.
